Do I have to take a medical physical?
Yes. It is HISD policy to have your medical history and health insurance is needed every school year.
I don't have any dance training, can I still audition?
If you can follow a beat and move to it, then you will be just fine. It will take a lot of hard work and dedication on your part to have a successful audition.
I can't do all those splits and jumps, do I have to have them?
You do not have to have them, however it will increase your score during the audition process. If you make the team, you will be required to have them.
Does it cost a lot of money to be a Pantherette?
Your 1st year will be more expensive (About $300) than any other year because it will cover your basic dance wear. The good thing is that many of the dance wear items last for years and if you take care of the items you only need to purchase once.
Do I have to pay everything up front?
No. You and your parent will have a payment plan that can last through the fall semester. You can also get sponsors for your dance wear for your dance wear.

Where can I get a physical?
You can go to your own doctor and have him/her fill out the physical form. If you do not have your own doctor, then you can go to any family clinic. Make sure you turn in your physical to Ms. Reyna or Mr. Rodriguez.
What happens if I do not get a physical and/or insurance?
According to HISD policy, you will not be able to participate.
What does the Junior Varsity Squad do?
Junior Varsity attends all events and activities and the Varsity Squad, however Varsity is the group who performs the showcase dance at 1/2 times at games, while Junior Varsity performs during the pregame.
So, if I am a Pantherette does this mean I cannot do any other sport or activity?
Yes, you can participate in other sports and activities. However, know that volleyball and basketball schedules overlap with football season and you may not be eligible to perform if you have too many missed rehearsals. It is imperative that you provide a schedule of events to your directors and coaches.
I am a parent, can I ride the bus with my child?
Yes, however you must register with HISD first and become a VIP volunteer. This process takes about 3 weeks, so it is a good idea to register early.
What is a VIP Volunteer?
VIPS are HISD volunteers. Each year, thousands of parents, students and community partners support HISD students and teachers by volunteering their time. VIPS represent all economic, ethic and educational backgrounds. They are caring adults or children who tutor students, serve as classroom assistants to teachers, provide enrichment and hand-on experience with computers, work in the library, clinic, office, cafeteria, and provide other support.
